E6420 Back-lit keyboard when buying from UK Outlet

Hi Guys & Gals,

I'm looking to buy a Latitude E6420 from the UK Dell Outlet but have a few specific optional extras that I'd like on the unit I get. The HD+ screen & discrete graphics get a mention on the specs for each unit but none of them mention whether they have the back-lit keyboard or not.

Does that mean that:
a) it's a rarely picked option that will show up in the spec list if on the laptop.
or
b) the spec list doesn't differentiate between regular and back-lit keyboards?


If b) and the one I pick doesn't come with a back-lit, how much am I likely to pay for a spare to retro-fit?

give them a call to find out the exact specs. i've seen backlit keyboards going on ebay for about 9-14 pounds, but they all seem to be american layout, not british

 

I've tried getting in touch with them but it seems the UK outlet doesn't have a phone number.

If I call Dell general sales (or business sales) they tell me the outlet can only be contacted by email - [email protected].
The same email address is listed on the outlet FAQs page. I've sent a couple of emails to that address and despite being received, haven't been responded to.

I tried a webchat with a CS rep who gave me a number to call - 0844 444 5219 - but sadly this just directed me back to the sales lines who fed me the same 'email only' response.

I even tried tweeting @delloutletUK but haven't had a reply there either.

Luckily today's inventory refresh didn't add any E6420s, let alone one in the spec I want. \o/

 

I don't recall seeing keyboard backlighting being mentioned on the Dell UK Outlet descriptions. You probably have to get whatever fits your needs and then, if necessary, change the keyboard later (when they appear on ebay at a reasonable price).

I have given up on the Dell Outlet, tried all the options mentioned above and still not received any reply from the email. Not impressed.

 

To update:

The E6420 I eventually ordered arrived without the back-lit keyboard. I called Dell, got put through to sales and bought the part separately for £48 delivered. I figure after saving so much on the actual laptop I didn't mind splurging a little to finish the job.

When I ordered my Dell E6320 there was no mention of a backlit keyboard anywhere on the order but I didn't bother to enquire as it wasn't that important to me. It ended up coming with a backlit keyboard which is quite useful.

Apparently the option for a backlit keyboard isn't available on a new customised E6*20 models. It only comes with certain specs. Here are my specs -
