    hey guys,
    i was looking to buy a new laptop E6510 or M4500 idk...i'm a Jr Architect..that means i use CAD, PS5, 3ds max...etc
    i'm going for an i7 720QM, 8GB Ram, 1920*1080
but i'm kinda confused about the GPU...last time i bought a Desktop things was pretty simple with GPUs and there names right now there is like tons of them and i have no idea what is good enough for what
i know that the 3100M is not that good, but what about the FX 1800...where does it stand? compared to ATI?...and is it all about GPU...is there any other performance difference? the M4500 is more upgradeable in the future perhaps?
i like the Latitude more...they look pretty much the same but for some reason the Latitude looks lighter and slimmer...plus those lines on the Precision outside are Ugly :p
i read about external GPUs, the one from MSI and AMD launching soon...would that be a better option...i dont mind carrying it...its no worse than an external HDD and its almost the same money difference, i already got a ATI 4670HD
Would the Precision have a better connection ports? they look pretty much the same to me
i know i could check reviews for both of them and for the cards but some times users could have a hint or 2 that helps more than any review...

the Latitude 6510 is a sweet machine, I have one

and the build is VERY similiar, BUT

being a jr. architect needing to run CAD, PS5, 3ds max....etc.

the latitude nvidia gfx will NOT suffice

go with the 4500 with the upgraded quadro fx 1800m

as to external gfx i have no clue

maybe someone else can chime in on all that

Taken from a Dell brochure, a feature of the Precision Mobile line:

"Dell partners with strategic Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to certify
system and application compatibility so that your applications can run gracefully on Dell Precision workstations. Through rigorous testing, Dell also targets guaranteed compatibility and optimized performance in demanding work environments such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), animation, engineering and architecture, making the Dell Precision M4500 an exceptional platform for extremely demanding workstation users who need to be mobile."

My M4500 includes a special nVIDIA performance driver for autocad and 3ds max. Not certain, but I don't recall seeing anything like that on my 3100M-equipped E6510.

It's specific to workstation-class laptops. Part of the reason you pay out the for these things.
