I've got a e6520 plugged into a dock. The dock is connected to 2 Dell U2410 24" monitors.

For whatever reason, monitor number 1 will randomly resize the screen. It does not change the resolution, everything gets way bigger. And its not that old "pan and follow the mouse" thing.

So, I will be doing nothing and the monitor will just make everything huge, hiding the top, sides and bottom, its as if the computer thinks i connected a 30" and I can only see the center.

If I power cycle the monitor, the resolution resets. This happens with both the OEM Dell load and my newly reinstalled load. It does not happen with my other Dell laptops.

    Thoughts?

I noticed new video drivers for both the Intel and Nividia cards on Dell's site last week. I also would make sure you have the newest bios.

    Connected via DisplayPort.

Yes, its always the same monitor. However, with my e6410 connected to the same dock, same cables same monitors I have no problems.

I swapped out the cables for DVI and it hasn't happened yet...but I'd like to find a solution as I'd rather use DisplayPort.

Suspect Optimus. Go into the BIOS and disable it to see if it makes a difference. Maybe the Intel doesn't support the same resolution range across monitors as the nVidia one and it loses the resolution when it switches back to the Intel one.

^Just tried that, didnt make a difference.

If I switch the DisplayPort cables around at the dock, the problem moves to the other monitor, so I know its not the cables or the monitor. ARG!

Also, when it happens, the monitor display information (In the MONITOR MENU, not the computer) says the resolution is at 800x600...the computer says 1920x1200...

I have another e6520 here now. Both are running the same BIOS version (A04) and I simply took the hard drive out of mine and put it into the other one...works without problems.

    I can't believe I need a new system board...what crap!
