    Hi,

Regarding configuring a Vostro 3300 off the Dell UK website.

Can I buy configure the vosto 3300 with windows 7 32bit + 2GB ram and then upon receipt, add 2GB ram and reinstall as windows 7 64bit.

This obviously assumes that the install disc from dell contains both 32bit n 64bit versions AND that its the same Licencing

    cheers

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to do so?
If you plan to go 64bit in the near future, why not go right now?

Hopefully someone can say for certain, but my guess is the install disc from Dell would have only 32-bits. OEM licenses from Microsoft are not like the consumer licenses -- they are for a specific bit version. However, that doesn't mean that Dell couldn't have made some sort of special deal with Microsoft, so don't take my word for it. Ask Dell if you don't get a more definitive answer here.

order by phone; you get much more options than with the online ordering process or use a premium reseller using the dell e-quote system to order customized systems

i paid just 35€ for the upgrade from 2 to 4gb so it's much cheaper than going for aftermarket ram upgrades ;)

I ordered mine with 6 GB RAM, but this option was only available in the most expensive configuration. Maximum RAM size is 8 GB.
Why I could only order with 6 GB is beyond my understanding (I guess it's more kind of "ideology", so that DELL does not want to make 8 GB available on the entry class business notebooks, only on the Latitudes and Precisions).

Also, the available options seem to change day by day. At least this is the case here in Austria :-(
