    hello I'm completely lost.

I have a E6500 which the power button no longer does anything. when i plug in the AC adapter no lights come on the computer. The CPU gets extremely hot and there is a hissing from near the DVD drive. I took the bottom panel off to see if anything looked weird and I could hear the hissing coming from the bottom near the DVD drive connection.

the computer was working last week. The LCD was broken but it works fine with an external display. I just got the replacement LCD today and installed it and now the computer does not function at all and tries to melt itself down.

Anyone know why its doing what its doing?

A hissing sound? That does not sound good at all.

Why are you replacing the LCD yourself? Do you still have warranty? Have you tried putting the old LCD back in?

    1) Unplug it and take the battery out right away!!!!

    2) Take the laptop apart again as you did to replace the screen Look for a screw going through a cable!

    3) Also shake the laptop and listen for anything clanking around in there such as a screw.

    4) Look for any physical damage as that hissing is most likely a component melting.

    Immoteus,

I didn't disassemble the base of the laptop at all. I also don't think a unplug power button would cause the CPU heating problem and the hissing when the ac adapter is plugged in. the computer is completely dead even though it was fine last week.

    Robin,

I did replace the LCD myself. it is a very easy job....(however i might be proving otherwise). its four screws and one plug in the back of the LCD. The computer stopped working when i was trying to start up the laptop with just an external monitor attached. I thought that the laptop just needed the LCD attached to boot up. But I'm finding that something must have gone wrong since i had the lcd off the computer.

Can you think of a reason why the CPU gets hot when the Power supply is connected? no lights no noise (other than the hiss) no sign of life at all. i don't know how the system is designed so i can't even come up with a hypothesis for why it would be getting so hot.

    Parawizard,

its unplugged without the battery in it...I did notice that the charge meter on the battery itself is empty even though it was full last time I touched the computer and the computer has been off the entire time. Maybe since it was left on the computer it was drained by a short circuit of some kind?

I have the plastic bezel removed and there is no screw in the cable. is it possible i could have damaged the video cable and that is doing something to make the computer not work at all? everything looks visually ok.

there is no sound of screws tumbling around in there when i shake it. I didn't open the laptop at all. so there should be no change to the motherboard/mobo connections or other devices. The only thing that i could play with was the LCD cable. but i don see how i could have destroyed that and made it turn my laptop into a leg burner.

i'm reluctant to open the latop and start removing things and investigating where the hissing is coming from on the board. because then i could mees other things up in the process. but you are right i should try to pin point the location of the noise on the board. Do you have any diagram of what is where on a Laditude E6500. Becasue i know the area making the noise but i dont know what is there...

thanks for the help. i will try to find a skematic maybe it will show me how its possible to get "no power" to the computer with battery or ac adapter but still have the thing hiss and the cpu start to get hot.

Do you still have warranty on the system, and was the LCD replacement a warranty service? I think you have more than just an LCD problem now, the motherboard may have been fried by some loose connection.

no its not under warranty. the procedure for this type of issue seems to be just to replace the mobo. But there must be an explanation for these symptoms.... hissing from the mobo and no power... cant there be a nce explaination.

Like "your CV joint is failing and that is why you hear that crunching when you are making left turns."

the computer solution always seems to be "replace the mobo"
