    Hi,
My 1 year old Dell E6400 lasts me for only 1 hour after being fully charged and gives a message that the battery has lost its charge. Is this the norm after hardly ever using the laptop extensively. I am planning on purchasing the replacement battery from ebay or other store. I am not sure about the genuinity. As long as the battery lasts me for 3 hours on a charge I am happy. These are a couple of sellers from whom I may purchase the battery:-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220554762938&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390155347916&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Which among the two looks like a better option? Is there any danger or harm to the laptop if I use these batteries? If you know of any other sellers or another good place to buy a new e6400 6 cell battery for less than 50$ please tell me about the same. Buying a new replacement battery from Dell costs at least 120$ which is way overpriced as I have seen even in my friend's case that they lose charge after about a year or so.

    Thanks

If it is sold as a genuine Dell battery then it should be genuine, and brand new should mean unused.

The true cost of the batteries is much less than the Dell list price (which are about half what Sony charges), but those prices are extremely competitive. Good feedback ratings suggest that the batteries are what they claim to be.

The working life of the Li-ion batteries is extremely variable. My E6400's battery is holding up well after nearly 18 months but you are not alone in seeing a big drop in capacity just after the normal one year warranty period expires. Most likely sufficient drop was already there before the year finished to justify a replacement under warranty, but that's water under the bridge.
