my vostro 1320 (intel X4500 ) recently got a problem for not being able to detect correct monitor type and resolution, even with a fresh install OS with up-to-date intel driver. also there is a relative loud noise in last second of shutting down(the moment computer finally powered off). is this a hardware failure?

Maybe its a monitor problem? Im guessing your still under warranty so call up dell for a replacement model.

i tested with two monitors and got same results:max resolution 1600x1200 in Dell G2410(native 1920x1080) and Dell E228WFP(1680x1050) in vista 64bit ultimate and win 7 64bit ultimate. both monitors work fine with vostro 1400.

this fixed the monitor detect problem, but the loud noise is still there in the last second of power-off.
