    Current specs are:

    E6400
    T9400 2.53Ghz
    7200RPM 80GB HD
    nvidia NVS 160 GPU
    6-cell battery

How much extra life would I get I downgrade/upgrade to the following specs:
    P-series CPU
32GB Solid Sate Disk Hard Drive
    nVidia NVS 160 GPU
    9-cell battery

the simpler quesiton is will the battery life be doubled at least. i'm currently getting 3-3.5 hours on basic web browsing, no media, no audio.

Going from the T-Series processor to the P-Series processor probably won't do too much. Going from the 7200RPM HDD to the SSD should do some. Going from the 6-Cell to the 9-Cell should do even more. Cumulatively, it should be a pretty hefty improvement.

I could get about 4-5 hours with a P-Series processor, an SSD, an NVS 160M, and a new 6-Cell, so 6-7 hours should be doable with a new 9-Cell and a similar configuration if you turn down your brightness, etc.

So I'd say the answer to your question is yes, but battery life will be doubled in a normal to best case scenario, rather than a worst case scenario.

The P series CPUs do have lower idle power ratings compared to the T series, perhaps 1W to 2W saving. The HDD to SSD change should also give a 1W to 2W saving.

3.5 hours from a 55Wh battery represents an average power drain of 15W. 2W power saving = 4.25 hours and 4W power saving = 5 hours from a 6 cell

Add 50% for a 9 cell battery to get 6.4 to 7.5 hours. So, same conclusion as above: You should just about double the current run time.

i totally forgot i'll have to pay for the upgrades! haha :/ i think paying $50 or so for another 6-cell battery will surely double my battery life and i'll just go that route rather than paying ~$220 for a SSD and 9-cell.

That's a mathematically sound solution. Is the 6 cell battery that cheap?

2 battery is not a wise option.
Because, first of all, an additional 6 cell battery is expensive... ~100$Can/US if I recall correctly. The 50$ that you see is for upgrading your battery to a 6-cell, part of the price is paid in the laptop price.

Also, If you don't use a Lithium-ion battery, it start oxidizing at the inside, meaning is start rusting and ages really fast. Putting the extra battery in a fridge inside a plastic bag will significantly slow down that process, but then you have a battery in the fridge. Lithium-ion battery must be use to have increase its longevity.

Another problem is how long the battery was on shelf. Lithium battery ages faster when not being used, and if the warehouse is hot because they decided to cut on air conditioning, then probably the battery will be pita at the time you get it.
