How to Reinstall Internet on Laptop:

I recently contracted a serious virus on my 2006 Dell Latitude D820 laptop and elected to reinstall Windows XP-Pro.

[I ALSO HAVE A 2008 DELL VOSTRO 420 DESKTOP OPERATING UNDER WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS (32-BIT). THIS IS MY EVERYDAY COMPUTER, WHILE THE LAPTOP SERVES AS A BACKUP AND MOBILE COMPUTER. THE TWO ARE PART OF A LAN NETWORK … VIA A LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER. THE DESKTOP CABLE-CONNECTS DIRECTLY TO THE LINKSYS, BUT THE LAPTOP DOES NOT AS IT’S WELL WITHIN LAN RANGE.]

As it’s been three years since I reinstalled XP Pro … I don’t recall how to reconnect to the internet, especially with my current setup.

Soooo … I’m hoping some kind soul might w-a-l-k me through this.

Then I’ll have to address some solid anti-malware, etc, protection against future cyber-attacks.

Well first off are you connecting by wireless or cable?

Check the Device manager that the wireless and LAN drivers have installed.
If not then you can use the drivers disk that came with the machine or download them from Dell site
