How well does a D620/D630 blue cap work on an E6410?

I lost the pointing stick cap for my E6410 today (took it out out of curiosity and then dropped it somewhere), and I rely on the pointing stick, so I need a replacement. However, Ebay only seems to sell the older blue variant for the D620/D630.

This appears to be able to fit the one on my E6410 (3x3mm post)

Has anyone tried this on the E6410? Does it work fine? Is it better than the slippery default cap?

I'm also considering getting a Thinkpad soft dome cap, though the hole is too big for the post on my E6410. I could fill that in with hot glue though. Anyone tried that?

    Thanks.

I don't think they interchange. They are different sizes. The Width is smaller on the D series eraser point.

Call dell and have a replacement sent, tell them it fell out and you need a replacement, trust me these get lost all the time

It actually works fine. I use the D620/D630 cap on my E6400.

The post inside is the same size yes, but doesn't it leave a gap between the keys and the eraser point?

Is that a problem? I use the old nub because the harder material grips the post better... the spacing around it doesn't affect performance.

To each their own, the gap would bug me. But if you like it better, that's cool.

I bought the bluecap from ebay for a few bucks, and it works good.

Since I'm fairly averse to paying $2-$3 dollars for 8 cents worth of plastic/rubber, I made my own out of a piece of straw and some hot glue. It works, but not as well as a real cap. It imitates the soft dome on the Thinkpads.

However, it's tilted and it makes the trackpoint faster going left than going right - screwing me up.

    Here's the ghetto cap:

It feels a lot like a Thinkpad soft dome cap I tried on a T410 at Micro Center. I took a tiny bit of a straw that just happened to fit the pointing stick's post perfectly and then piled hot glue around it. I got some studs on it like a Thinkpad soft dome cap by molding it around the speaker grilles when the glue was still wet.

It's a lot less slippery than the default cap; it grips when my fingers are wet just fine. Also, it no longer has the issue of making the pointer go faster in one direction (I might have imagined that)
