Much much? It is a good notebook for sure, but as old as the D830 would be it had better be cheap.

I used one briefly the other day, and the touchpad was insanely bad. I would let my finger up and the pointer would continue to 'glide' along the screen for a ways, like I hit it with a pool cue. I didn't mess with any of the settings though, so it may be fixable.

^^ This is what happens with my D620, but after I use the track point.

I looked into the D820/D830 and found them to be very nice, the IT dudes at my school used them, until they upgraded.

So has it been like that since you got it? or is it just going bad?

D830 is a great machine. solidly built, and reliable. Spares are cheap and easy to find on ebay as well, so if anything goes wrong you can easily fix it yourself, especially since dell has their service manuals available online, which basically gives you step by step instructions on how to disassemble or replace any component.

the specs you listed are decent as well. Gaming on it wont be great though, its graphics card isnt really that powerful
