is there a chance that the BIOS won't accept new battery?

Hi,
My original 6 cell battery of my 1,5 year Latitude E6500 just died and I plan to get a new one. But I don't want to pay the rediculous price they want on the Dell's site and am looking for a battery on ebay. There are many 6 cell there for about 30-40 GBP. I have heard that there is sometimes a catch in the new laptop BIOS-es - they won't accept third party batteies. Is there such a thing with the Latitude E6500 ? Is there something that i should know when choosing a battery?

Check on Ebay for genuine Dell batteries. Even if you end up spending more on a genuine battery (price won't be as bad as Dell retail price), it will last much longer than an aftermarket battery, and that's not to mention the safety issues along with poorly made batteries. I've been able to find new genuine E4300 and E6400 batteries for $40 or less.

What exactely means ''dell genuine'' battery? The ones that i'm seing on the english ebay are all stated as ''original dell'' and the 6 cells have prices from 20 to 45 british pounds ( 6 cell on Dell site costs 130 pounds end price). From the pictures they all look identical to my battery that came with the laptop - they have the ''dell'' logo on them and everything. I still thought that form Dell they may put some kind of chip or firmware on the ones they cell to make all others uncompatible with the new BIOS-es; and thus - make you buy from their site.

 

I've bought a Dell battery off UK ebay and it is genuine. ebay sellers are able to get hold of Dell parts at good prices, perhaps by buying in bulk, possibly from outside UK.

Just look for a seller who says genuine Dell and has good feedback. The feedback would suffer if the products are not genuine.

The "original Dell" wording should be OK, just beware of tricky wordings such as replacement or compatible.

In Canada, eBay genuine Batteries are just a few dollars (<10$) than Dell own online store :/
