I tried to install WinXP Pro on a new Vostro 3500 and all my efforts failed. A BSOD with a 0X0000007E error message interrupts the installation process.

I checked the Dell documentation for this model on the Dell site, and it is presented as a windows 7 unit. I checked, on the other hand, the Dell support site, and it offers WinXP drivers for the Vostro 3500, a clue for the feasabilty of an XP installation.

So, what's wrong? Is there any specific methos for such an installation? Is there anything I can do to avoid my endless set of failures?

If your not using a dell supplied OS disc, you can slipstream Sata drivers onto the OS disc, google it, a retail copy of XP lacks these drivers thus BS
