Added a worn beat down (in excellent cosmetic condition though) D630 to my Dell stable. Poor thing only had 512MB of ram, during the upgrade to 2GB I'm yelling at it going "what do you mean I have to remove the keyboard to get to DIMM A?" :) I also gave her my old Samsung 60gb SSD that doesn't do trim. Pretty sturdy little laptop I must say.

The RAM isn't that difficult in a D630, it's like any Dell from 3-4 years ago. Do you have the Intel Crestline GPU or Nvidia Quadro GPU?

Crestline. I don't do PC gaming so I don't need the fancy graphics. I'm already waiting for the Nvidia GPU on my HP DV9000Z to burn out again. HP had to replace the motherboard and the lid because the heat cracked the left hinge.

Oh and removing the keyboard wasn't difficult at all, I was just thrown when I couldn't find the DIMM A slot next to DIMM B. :)

Yeah good thing you did, D630 is on the Nvidia list of models affected. It is a fantastic machine, it will serve you well for many years to come.

I really do like the D-series Latitudes. Very sturdy machines indeed. And yes, I was thrown with the DIMM locations too with my D620.

Good choice! I picked up a used D630 on ebay last year (unfortunately, it had the Nvidia chip, but was fortunately still under warranty) and it has been an absolutely solid notebook. I actually prefer it to my E6400 and it has become my workhorse laptop.
