Maybe this is more a Win 7 issue, but anyways...

When I click 'Computer' in Win Explorer, Win Explorer starts to "load 'Computer'", as indicated by the tool tip on the cancel button (it says "Stop loading 'Computer'"). But why does this happen? What is there to "load"? If I click a drive letter the top contents of the drive are shown instantly, but not when I click 'Computer'. Also, while loading the gray bar moves along the top of the window, but the HD lights do not flash any more than in ordinary use when not writing to the HDs. Furthermore, this "loading 'Computer'" gets slower the longer the progress...

It's all captured here (~2 min video) http://screencast.com/t/YjI3YTU1NTAt

This is on Dell Precision M4400 running Win 7 Pro x64.

    Any ideas, anyone?

This loading when you click "computer" is the time that the machine takes to read all drives connected to your notebook. It can take a long time if you have many drives with plenty information (I see in the video that you have C, D, E, F, S...). Try to disconnect some of these drives and see what happens.

Other alternative explanations to the long loading time may be drives (software drives commanding hardware) not compatible with Win7, slow hd or low ram memory (but you have 7200 hd and 4GB ram).

Do you have any network drives? That could explain a long load time as well.

    Thanks for the replies.

I could have mentioned that everything worked fine before, with no such unacceptable waiting.

And now I can mention that after re-boot it worked fine again with no such unacceptable waiting.

What happened and/or why, I have no idea, but it's gone now...
    Thanks
