    Hey guys,

I apologize in advance for my very novice question. I used to build my own desktop computers for gaming purposes but have not owned a laptop in years... so the only measure I have to compare my new e6410 to is a desktop - obviously not accurate.

Is it normal that after entering my password to log into windows, there is a delay of 5-7 seconds before actually displaying my desktop? I have literally nothing booting with windows (refurb machine from dell outlet, no junk software). I probably have nothing to be concerned about, but after the last login it literally froze and I momentarily got the "program not responding: windows explorer" message.

    The system is...

    Windows 7
    2.53ghz i5
    3gb 1333 DDR3
    the nVidia 3100 card upgrade
Some other things that are irrelevant: dvd burner, 160gb hd, half wireless card.

    Thanks again guys!

Check msconfig and see what is loading via the registry that you can't see. If it's stock, it loads a lot of garbage that is not needed. Uncheck the boxes and reboot and see if it gets any better.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have disabled nwiz as I do on all of my machines that have it, as well as two other items that I didnt see a purpose of booting at startup (such as open office).

many of the others look like they may be important to a laptop bootup (such as touchpad software), so I will have to continue checking into other processes.
