Hi All, I want to use USB 3.0 ports for my E6400. Anyone out there using it? Can recommend me a good brand/type. TQ.

An Express card adaptor is your only option (assuming that you have an Express card slot). I haven't tried any adaptors (I'm using eSATA) but recall someone reporting a speed that was several times faster than USB 2.0 but well below the USB 3.0 potential speed. It was unclear whether the bottleneck was with the PCIe bus, the Express card adaptor or the hardware in the external unit.

I think the express card adapters also require an external power source, so you would probably have to run another wire from the express card to your usb 2.0 slot.

I mainly use a cable like this with bare drives but I also have a couple of enclosures (Icybox is my favourite brand for enclosures) which have both USB and eSATA ports. However, those enclosures use a separate power cable when using eSATA.

May I ask what cloning and/or backup software you use with this setup, if any? The drive on my E6410 recently 'could not be found', so I may be gearing up for a solution.

For cloning, Acronis TrueImage Home 2010 has been my favourite for the past year or so. I always create a bootable CD and then use that for cloning. However, most of my backing up is simple copying of my files onto a pre-cloned HDD.
