Hey, i currently own a M1730 system, with t9300 cpu, 9800m GT sli, 4 gigs of memory and 500gb + 160gb 7200 rpm hard drives.
I have a buyer for my system for 2250$.
I looked for upgrade options and decided that i want to go for m6400 covet with the following spec :
    QX9300 quad core extreme cpu
4 (2x2 gigs of memory easily upradable to 8 since i just need to add another 2x2)
    250gb 720rpm hard disk
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M
    RGB LED 1920x1200 display
3 year warranty (my m1730 is out of warranty)

For that lappy i will need to shell out 3250$.

    That's a 1000$ upgrade.
Do you guys think that the extra CPU, GPU(?), RGB Led, cheap upgrade to 8gigs and 3 years of warranty worth the $$$ ?

I don't think it's worthwhile unless you really need a mobile quad or really like the M6400 chassis or LED diplay, etc. Even then, you may want to consider the i7 M6500 over the M6400. Otherwise, I'd think that the 9800M GT SLI has significantly more graphical computing power than the FX3700M, and the M1730 should already be able to use at least 6GB of memory, if not 8GB, like most of Dell's Santa Rosa machines.

Well, I do like the chassis and rgb led option of the m6400. I wanted to hear some more opinions before I make my decision since right now I am on the fence. Another option is buying a m17x. It is in the same price category as te m6400 but I think the build quality of m6400 is far superior.

The RGB LED is awesome but the quadro fx3700m is only slightly 15-20 percent faster than your card, well how much would you sell your machine if you get the M6400?

Yes i see what you mean it is very expensive for the newest 3800m there isn't much of a performance jump anyway with that card. Well are you going with a quadcore or staying with a dual core? Also make sure you get RGB LED its awesome i love it.

I believe you may try to look at some m17x with core i7 920XM...

m6400 is a great machine if you need profesional features of quaddro fx.

Be careful with m6400 screens. You may check this review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIChSTJK1IU
