Title says it: My M4500 reliably crashes, every time after I wake it up from sleep. I have it set to be locked on wake-up, so I do get the Welcome Screen to log on after it wakes up, but when I try to log on it crashes immediately after entering the password. Slightly annoying, one might say...

This machine runs Win7 Ultimate 64bit, and I replaced the original hard drive with a Crucial C300 onto which I copied the original factory image the Dell came with. Anybody have any advice what could be done to fix this? Something about sleep states for the SSD maybe? Thanks in advance!

Does resume from hibernation work OK?

I've cloned Win 7-64 from HDD onto a couple of different SSDs without any issues.

Your comment refers to the fact that sometimes BSOD on resume after sleep with SSD's is eliminated by disabling hybrid sleep:

    1. Click on Start.

    2. Click Control Panel.

    3. Click on Power Options.

    4. For the currently active power scheme, click on Change advanced power settings.

    5. In the Power Options dialog box Advanced settings tab, click to expand the Sleep setting.

    6. Click to expand the Allow hybrid sleep setting.

    7. Verify the On battery and Plugged in settings are Off.

    8. Power off, then restart and ( ) test.

Yes, no problems with Hibernate. Not surprising, really, since that is very different from Sleep.

I had Hybrid Sleep disabled already. I have also tried a number of different power plans, but the laptop crashes in the same way for each of them. I have copied the current image from the SSD onto a regular hard drive, and run the machine off of that, and there's no problems with Sleep anymore.

Fazit: Since I have only limited time to waste on this cr@p, I am giving up on the idea of an SSD in this laptop for now. I'll be getting a Seagate Momentus XT instead, and be done with it. Once they start selling SSDs that actually work in this machine, I may give it another try.

The only other thing to suggest is to make sure your drivers and SSD device firmware are up-to-date. No doubt you already have.

Even though many have had good results, I'm not ready to make the transition to SSD's. Most of my use involves churning large files; not the best application for SSD's. I also need the capacity to go up some and cost per GB to come down.

Exactly my conclusions, too. At least for my purposes, SSDs simply aren't quite ready yet. This particular machine is mostly for presentations, so I don't need the storage as much there, which is why I thought I'd give the SSD a try. Unfortunately, a properly functioning sleep mode is vital for this one, which means the SSD needs to go. Oh well...

I had this problem actually, do you happen to run Symantec SEP?
