I have seen some M4500s come onto the Dell Outlet with specs that indicate they have the i7-920 2.66GHZ desktop processor. But, I have not seen any documentation from Dell/elsewhere that this processor was ever offered in the M4500. Here is the description taken from the site:

    Intel Core i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz)

I have had issues with the accuracy of the Dell Outlet descriptions before ... just want to makes sure that these laptops really do come with this desktop processor (and not the 920XM).

Also, is there is any reason to want/get the i7-940XM over this i7-920 2.66 processor? The i7-920 2.66 seems to perform much better according to the benchmarks I have seen.

    Thanks.

I have not heard of any desktop processor on a m4500, it is going to be the 920xm or perhaps a mistake and it could be a totally different processor (i7 [email protected]).

The i7 920 performs far better then any mobile processor. However would eat your battery life up with a 125w power requirement.

The listing is definitely the 920XM if not some typo. There is no way to even physically fit a desktop 920 into the M4500. And then if you did, the laptop would melt.

    It's an obvious typo.

    Thanks everyone.

Just noticed the following shows up on the detailed build sheet:

    X3MH9 Module,Processor,Clarksfield,XXXXX,2.00,8M,55W

So, I am guessing it is the 920XM.

Weird because more continue to show up with the [email protected] processor description I included before.

Its totally the desktop processor in the laptop
The sockets are different but you can just kind of pound it in with a hammer and it will work. If it doesn't fit your heatsink you may need alot of glue and ductape though.

    Funniest thing I read today. :D :D

Maybe there will be an external enclosure for desktop processors one day? :p
