When I have an external speaker plugged in on my M4600 I get .5-1 second intervals where sound doesn't exit the output and comes out the speakers like when the jack hasn't been properly plugged in. My problem doesn't have anything to do with the physical connection though, I think it's software related. Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't know if anybody can replicate this, but I found the problem. When I'm having a skype chat conversation (text not voice), my sound switches from audio output to laptop speakers I receive a message while that window is minimized/inactive. Not sure if it's isolated to just skype, but it's fairly annoying, especially if I'm gonna be using my laptop in more public locations.

    Edit: Using Skype 5.3.0.120

I'm having the same problem with the speaker switching in skype, and the only solution I've found is to set skype to do not disturb so that it doesn't play notification sounds.

Glad I'm not the only one. Gave me the idea to check out Skype settings and I think I've found a better solution.

Options -> General -> Audio Settings

Under Ringing it should be set to Ring on all devices. Change that to Use selected speaker or any other option.

Tested it out and this seems to fix the issue.
