    zerosource,

When I checked seagate's web site page their specs sheets rate the regular part of the "Hybrid" Drive and they have "Solid State Hybrid SSD Drive" Models rated at either 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm.
... So I was wondering which model dell was using the 5400 or 7200 rpm Solid State Drive, assuming that is that dell is using seagate. They might be using a different drive vendor.

IIRC, the 7200 rpm units were the early ones, and most SSHDs are now 5400 rpm. Could be wrong though - I ordered mine with a 750gb HDD and swapped in my own SSD.

    Thanks for the info.

    Questions:
    1. Is a SSHD, event tough its 5400 rpm , faster than a Conventional 7200 rpm Drive ?

    2. What size SSD did you go for and what brand is it ?

It should feel faster, at least for certain things, like booting. The drive tries to learn what you access most frequently and keep that in the cache. I've never used one.

When my HDD died in my old studio 1557 I picked up a 256 GB crucial m4 that I've been very happy with. I think I paid ~$212, so you can get a sense of how long ago that was, based on current prices.

These days I would go for 480/512, since you'll get slightly better performance from the additional chips, and you can always use more space. Keep in mind some over provisioning (google it) and that SSDs do best when not totally full.

    Very informative for me, thanks.
BTW, if I remember correctly, I think I saw some of your posts on spiceworks.
    1. ... So, do you still get freezes or lockups with the M4800 ? If yes, how often now ?
    2. ... Trying ti decide whether to buy the M4800 , ... Do you recommend purchasing the M4800 or not, at this point ??
