Sorry if this has been covered before... I searched for m6400 and esata and wasn't able to find what I was looking for.

I used to use my eSATA port every day with a few different devices. I started to have an overheating problem, so Dell replaced the motherboard and graphics card yesterday. Of course, that means I lost all my BIOS settings. I'm pretty sure I have them back to where they should be (RAID mode on the SATA controller, eSATA port enabled), yet the eSATA port doesn't see a damned thing connected to it.
Every other piece of hardware is exactly the same as it was before. Any ideas as to what I might be missing?

Have you tried running Dell Diagnostics? See if there are any hardware problems? I had a machine where Dell replaced the motherboard, afterwards all the USB ports no longer worked. When I ran the diagnostics, it reported a hardware problem with the USB controller.

yikes, all kinds of problems with the diags.
this was clearly the first m6400 the tech had ever worked on and was just fumbling his way through it. I wish they'd just let me replace the parts myself.
    time to call suppt again...

Is your SATA operation set to either AHCI or IRRT? If it's set to ATA it simply won't work.

right, it only works in RAID or AHCI mode... I tried both.
the dell diags threw up a bunch of errors and they are sending a tech again tomorrow (the same tech?). I originally thought I was missing some setting, but now I think he either put in some faulty parts or forgot to reconnect some stuff (or didn't properly seat some connections).

    Hello guys,

what is the max speed of our Esata port on the Dell M6400? I'm only getting arround 135MB/s... which is rediculous, I connected a corsair p256 and thats the fastest i can get.. Running windows 7 64

anybody else know of this issue..? how can our e-sata get its max speed.. 200MB/s+
