I just got my M6400 in today from Dell Outlet (X9100, 8GB ram, 64bit Vista Ultimate, single 250GB drive (need to add another drive one day) and RGB LED without E2E). I'm ready to get this thing useful, which means installing:

    SQL 2005
    SQL 2008
    VS Studio 2005
    VS Studio 2008
Adobe CS3 Web Premium Suite (haven't jumped to CS4 yet)
    Adobe Lightroom
    Expression Blend

... and that's just the big stuff, off the top of my head. So, am I really asking for trouble if I just go ahead and start loading software right now, w/o wiping and re-installing?

I'd personally always do a clean install, but if your system isn't blue screen every five minutes due to some crappy driver, you're probably not asking for trouble by installing everything on the factory image. Dell's Latitude and Precision images are generally pretty free of bloat.
