I own a Dell Precision M6400 that's fairly decked out, except that it has the CCFL 1920x1200 screen. The resolution is nice, but the color fidelity really sucks. There are certain colors that it just won't show, period.

I have been considering purchasing a screen on eBay here:
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150369304311
$500... (not a small bit of change!) I'm not even sure if that's an Edge to Edge screen or not (but I don't think it is)

The thing is that the price difference on dell's website for an E2E (Edge to Edge) vs. a standard RGB LED Backlit LCD screen is quite substantial - almost $330 Canadian!

What is the difference between the two panels? Are they a fundamentally different display technology - like H-IPS vs TN? Does the Edge to Edge use Edge LED lighting vs. direct backlighting? Is the color fidelity improved over the regular one?

Or is the only difference, for $330 seriously only that it has a glass that covers part of the bezel? Because that just seems silly to me to have that kind of price difference (and personally I find really glossy screens annoying and like the slight matte finish of my current monitor just fine).

I'm pretty confused by the differences in the panels available for the M6400, so some clarification would be much appreciated!

They both use TN panels. There are no non-TN panels in any notebook >13" to my knowledge.

Can you, or anyone speak to the type of lighting used? (i.e. side lit vs. back-lit) Are they the same between panels?

I guess this thread more or less answers my questions:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=319898&page=2

The non-E2E model has an anti-glare finish (which I prefer), but the only real difference is aesthetic. Interesting.

I was wondering if the LED backlit displays all come with the webcam and array microphones...

The bezel isn't worth that much, you can easily get an anti-glare screen protector for far cheaper from 3M or buyviewguard.com
