M6400 Unrecognised Battery - Wont Charge Fault

    I work for a company who refurbish dell machines and we have a number of M6400 laptops in that don’t recognise the battery and won’t charge them. We’ve replaced the batteries from working ones so we know it’s not them. We’ve updated the bios, swapped ram, CPU etc and we still have the same error.
    It’s pointing towards the motherboards having a fault but we thought we’d see if anyone else has had this problem and been able to fix it. They don’t have Dell warranty so we can’t get them swapped out.
    Any Suggestions and fixes welcome

    Hi, mcscom.

    Could you check in the BIOS and make sure the service tag appears there? If not, the system will not recognize the battery.

    Additional info: You can download the asset.com utility here, and use it to enter the service tags in the BIOS. Even though the m6400 is not listed under compatible platforms, it should be. Let me know if it does not work.

    Thanks Bill it worked! Saved us a lot of money! We have to as dell brokers remove all the tags from our machines.
