    Hello,

I have a Precision M6500 on the way! Since DELL overcharges on parts and upgrades on new systems, I just got it with a 250GB drive which I will be moving to the secondary hard drive spot and putting an SSD in for the main drive.

My question is, where do I get the secondary hard drive bracket, connector, and screws? I'm hoping some third party has it on the web cheaper than Dell. Did a quick eBay search and can't find it.

I am NOT talking about the adapter for the optical drive bay.

    See this link!

I read somewhere that this bracket and screws are included. Can someone confirm this?

Sometimes they are, and sometimes they aren't. There's no way to know for sure until your specific one arrives.

    Geez, so much for consistency.

What is the Dell part number in case I have to order one? Anyone have a full parts list for this model? I have one in an Excel file for my current XPS M1710.

    Thanks for the info.

If/once you have your service tag, you should be able to look it up from their support page. I don't have a M6500 myself (opted for a HP 8740w), and all I could find were parts numbers for M6400 caddies, either the R534G or the N361F. I'm not sure if those are 2 different revisions, or if one is an internal part number for a specific store or something.

I checked on the "Parts & Upgrades" page for the M6500. They have hard drives listed by no bare brackets. I looked at the system configuration from the Order Status page and don't see anything that looks like a bracket without a drive. Is there somewhere else to look?

    Thanks

I just did a google search for M6400 caddy, and found the shop entries and their listed parts numbers. I double-checked by googling said part numbers, and the R534G sent me to a "system information" page that was achieved from (someone else's) service tag. This is why I mention that having a service tag should be able to get you a proper part number. Contrariwise, you could try asking in the M6500 Discussion Thread and see if anyone can put in their service tag and find you said part number. Or, of course, you could try calling Dell directly.

The secondary HDD bracket, screws, and interposer should all be included on a piece of styofoam. Check the bottom side of the insert if you don't see them. If for some reason it is not included then contact Dell support and they should ship you one at no cost.

Can't ask for a neater response than that. Thanks, havoctex.

For more information: Your M6500 will need to be in warranty, other then that yes they should send them free of charge, likely overnight depending your warranty.

    Thanks for the tip!

Supposedly my system will be shipping Monday. I ordered last Monday, so not bad on lead-time! I should have something to report back on Wednesday.

I ordered the system with the standard 250GB 7200RPM drive and 4GB RAM, then got an 80GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and 8GB RAM from Newegg MUCH cheaper than Dell's upgrade prices. I'll move the 250GB drive over to the 2nd bay.
