Ok, so I was having a problem with Panasonic P2 drivers, figured out UWB was conflicting. So I was going to remove it. I did that and ever since, the system won't boot. Fan spins and then the thing shuts off in a couple seconds. Any ideas? I reinstalled it and still nothing.

    Can't boot into the BIOS?

Reinstalled what... the UWB driver? Is that Bluetooth? Or, did you remove the device without first uninstalling it in Device Manager?

    I would;

Remove battery and AC adapter and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

    Test AC adapter with multimeter

Use a known good AC adapter

After that you may have a charger/power circuitry issue with your laptop and your best bet would be to call up Dell.

I reinstalled the UWB card. Drivers aren't an issue since it won't even POST.

Well it does the same thing on battery and on AC. I have two PSU's and that doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm going to go through the hardware now and see if I can find anything unusual.

Is this the system you hard-wired a Logitech unifying receiver on the inside? No telling from here what might be wrong with it. Maybe you pulled too much current through some MB component and fried it.

It is the same system, but the Logitech mod worked for a week with no problems. I wonder where else I could pull +5V from?

Anyways, Dell is sending a new video card and motherboard kit.

Unless you have pretty good plan for modding the MB, taking a shot in the dark at the risk of your system may be hard to justify, time and expense-wise... imo. :)

Well, that was why I tapped 5V from the fan. I didn't have to touch the motherboard. USB doesn't draw all that much. I suppose I could tap 5V from a USB port on the PCB.

I would think if it was the MOD, it would have fried the board almost immediately after I did it. It worked for a week. I did video ending and some heavy stress loads since with no problem.

The good news is that CompleteCare warranties cover pretty much everything for a few years. I got on Support Chat last night, explained the symptoms, said I narrowed it down to the motherboard or graphics card. I requested parts only dispatch and they got it set up. He didn't even have me waste time with further troubleshooting. No run around. I love it.

    Hello all, just an update.

Got my parts on Monday. which is amazing since they didn't dispatch them until late Friday night. Woohoo!

I swapped the main system board and it solved the problem. My embedded Logitech receiver is back in place and working fine. I don't think that was the cause of the problem.

Now that I think about it, I remember Friday morning when I was about to leave for work, I noticed the system said it was on battery even though it was plugged in and the blue LED ring on the cable was glowing. I thought it was strange and switched IEC cables on the power brick and it fixed it. I figured the IEC was just bad somehow. I'm guessing that was the start of the failure. I standby between home and work, and when I at work, I had to shut down for something and that's when it wouldn't turn back on.

Very strange, but all seems fine in the world now.

I will say that I originally had the "Wake On AC" option turned on, which is probably not a good idea. Leaving that off.
