My second M6600 just arrived today. I have started up the windows for the first time and I see that there are sooooo many bloatware including some premere color software, bunch of intels and power dvds.

Anyways, with them, on default start it was using 2.9-3.04 gb of ram on idle! Though I have used msconfig to disable starting of useless programs, should I just reinstall the os? It seems that can help get rid of some bloatware.

It is using 2.5+gb of ram when I disabled all but two things for startup under msconfig. It seems like some programs still run in the background.

I do not mind using up the ram, but I think that these programs that are running can end up with slowing the hdd down a bit. I dont want SSD as I need sheer capacity. Any ideas?

I would do a clean install of Windows 7 and add a drivecaddy so you can have both an SSD drive for fast boots and non ssd drive for storage

im rather looking at minicard for ssd. I need at least 256gb bare minimuum for programs so that is an option for later when samsung pm840 is released..

I think I will just keep the the optical drive for now.

Actually, any Dell notebook I ever got (way back to 1998) was loaded with cr*p to the gills. That is why common wisdom says to clean-install any new computer, if you have the knowledge and the means.

Just be sure not to erase diagnostics and/or PrecisionOn partitions.
