I ran prime95 on my 2720QM all night. When I woke up it was at 2.5 on all 4 cores. Ambient temp was about 75F.

I may have to rethink my preference for the 2860QM vs the 2920XM. Both have the 8MB cache and have the same clock speeds. Maybe the difference is that the 2860QM can do everything the 2920XM can do with 45 watts instead of 55. Would be interesting to compare them directly.

I understand that bios and throttlestop program does not allow overclocking, but do you see in the future for dell releasing a bios update for us to use throttlestop?

I also understand that the reason why dell doesnt want us overclocking is because stability is the most important factor.

I'll toss in my observations with the 2720 (I purchased this one with the intent of upgrading sometime in the future.. maybe)..

With short term loads (less than full usage over some amount of time 30 seconds? maybe) then all 4 cores will run at 2.9ghz....

The highest single core speed I've seen is 3.2.. (but I don't usually have a lot of single threaded load going on)

Under full load for a while the speed will drop gradually from 2.9 to ~2.4 (hovering closer to 2.5 than 2.4)....

I think the intel turbo specs were based on machines that do not cool as well as the m6600 :)

Your right, it looks it - plus the turbo is different.

Oh well - the 2920xm is still a nice processor :)
