Before I came to this forum it was simple, 1333 or 1600. Then I learned about CAS, and I no sooner settle on that and someone throws in XMP and profiles and Kingston HyperX with programmable CAS Latencies of 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5. So which memory should I buy for 16 and 32 GB?

    Thanks!

I have 16GB (4x4GB) of G.Skill 1600 Cas 9 memory and it works great. It was cheap too.

Thanks. I was looking at it at NewEgg. Did you ever try XMP and profiles? For example, 1333 with CAS 7 is as fast as 1600 CAS 9.

I imagine it would be, CAS latency is typically more important overall. I bought my 16GB of RAM for ~$55 total, so it just made sense.

Now if you could do 32 GB for $110...:D
PS: WOW! Your machine is almost exactly like mine except I put in M4 512GB yesterday.

well the 32gb aftermarket upgrade is not that expensive, considering its size. Cant believe I was ripped off by dell though.

Buying any official CRU upgrade through any OEM manufacturer is always a rip off. I remember 32 GB RAM for the Elitebook 8740W, M6500 and W701 was easily 8+ grand, now you can get 32 GB for...320 dollars.

True, ~$340 is the best I've seen, and if at 1333 you can run the CAS to 7, you wouldn't lose anything over the 1600 for speed.
