T61 is Santa Rosa and T7700 is 800 FSB, so that would make sense. T400 is Montevina platform and based were P8x00 series processors.

    T7700 will work in a D630.

What he meant were even numbered models of the T8X00 and T9X00 series (ie. T9400).

The D630 will take the odd numbered models, but the T8300 would probably end up being a downgrade from the T7500 due to cache.

Cache makes almost zero difference in normal use. Only when rendering and benchmarking will you see a slight difference. Plus I'd take a T8300 over a T7500 (Penryn vs Merom)

Depends if the Penryn features are taken advantage of. If not, the additional cache will be deciding. I've compared similarly spec'd systems with T7500 and T8300 before, and my D630 with the T7500 came out on top.
