I want to be able to use the biometric for logging into applications and for storing web passwords and logging into these accounts etc.

Exactly. Unfortunately, both times I tried to contact Dell (once through email and once through their IdeaStorm website) these suggestions did not warrant a reply.

I have sent a private message to a Dell rep here on these forums, let's see what that gives.

Yes, and until Dell moves on this issue, potential buyers should be made aware of the fact that Dell Latitude and Precision models have no biometric devices support for Windows 7, period, end of sentence. Anybody who is interested in such support will have to look to different brands, it's as simple as that.

Yep. I have tried to stress that out when I make recommendations here at NBR.

I have just complained to our account manger in Channel Sales about this, I'll let you know if this makes a difference.
My old XPS could handle these features and yet this more expensive and secure business laptop is unable to do so. Unfortunately found out after I bought this thing.

Even with the latest drivers (A15) & the latest Security Manager (A15) I have repeated "failed to enroll fingerprints" on both my M4400 & my wife's E6400, both using Win 7 x64 Pro.
And I thought Vista support was bad with Dell & these machines.

Did you carry out the firmware update?

As the Control Vault firmware update is dated earlier than either the Security Manager or Security driver, then yes, I did.

The ControlVault firmware I am seeing for the E6500 is dated the same as the other two updates 2/11/2010, are these the dates you see?
