I have 3 perfect offers (over 20% below dell online store; cheaper than academic retailer) for the 3 new Dell latitude and precision books.

    Specs are the following:

    i7 620
    4gb Ram
    lowest end HDD
    highest end display options
HSDPA module in Latitude; pcie Minicard in precision

all of them have their pros and cons so i want to get the one with the best screen.

how good is the 1440x900 panel in the E6410?

are the 15.4" panels better than the 14" ones?
shall i go for the 1600x900 or 1920x1080

i prefer a higher res but the most important thing for me is a good contrast ratio and high brightness :(

Pictures of screens with viewing angles are VERY welcome!

on the lenovo side the 15" systems seem to have far superior contrast ratios (550:1 vs. 140:1 on the 14") and a very high brightness (FHD at 260nits)

do ou think that lenovo and dell use similar panels as they are in the same price league?

I'm going to venture that unless you got something like the RGB LED display that used to ship with the M4500, all of the other panels are probably just as mediocre as any other laptop display on the market.

There is an NBR E6410 review with some screen measurements. Also check notebookcheck. I would describe my E6410's display as a lot better than mediocre (overall very similar to my previous E6400's display) but the anti-reflective coating on any non-glare display does reduce the visual quality compared to a glossy screen.

I don't really have answers to the OP's questions, but maybe this will help:

    > I have M4500's with the 1600 x 900 anti-glare white LED screen, nVidia FX 880M discrete graphics adapter, and quad core i7. This configuration hits the sweet spot for me in terms of performance and portability. I really like the screen (colors, contrast/brightness, viewing angles, etc.).

    > I also have E6510's with the 1366 x 768 LED screen with Core i5 520M. While acceptable, the viewing characteristics (color, contrast/brightness, viewing angles, etc.) of the screen on my E6510's are not nearly as good as the M4500 1600 x 900 screen.

    > While more windows desktop area is always better, IMO, 15.6 inches is too small for 1920 x 1080. To much eye strain. Use a larger external monitor for 1920 x1080p.

    > Not sure I see a rationale for spending the extra cash for an M4500 if the dual core i7 620M with integrated graphics meets your needs. I'd buy an E6510 with Core i5 instead.

    FWIW:

Since introduction, the RGB LED display has been advertised as a supported configuration on the M4500 (and still is today), but it can't be ordered. There is no evidence on this forum than Dell has shipped any RGB's on the M4500.

In other words, it's not really supported.

As you can see in this thread, I attempted to engage havoctex on the subject, but he/she chose to remain silent.
