    Hi

Just saw this on the dell malaysia website. seems to be the replacement for the vostro 1200. nice specs at almost netbook prices yet its a powerful 12" notebook

wonder what the battery life is gonna be like though

    From this Dell UK page:

I suspect they also mean with a P series CPU (lower power than the T series or Celeron options).

Needless to say, with those options the price gets well above the netbook range.

The matte LED display is listed in the specs but isn't yet a configuration option on the Dell UK website.

the 1200 is a serious alternative to a netbook though, just a little more expensive but its got "proper" notebook components

One advantage compared with the Samsung P210 / Q210 is that it appears to have a full set of navigation keys on the keyboard.

I think that you will find that the weight with optical drive and 6 cell battery is nearer 2kg than 1.5kg.

I just got one of these from the Dell outlet for $580.96 after tax and using this 10% off discount code:FGBTQ0GK8FQTFV (I found it on xpbargains.com) They are all "Previously Ordered New" so it looks like to me someone made a big order and then canceled it because all of the ones I saw there were identical. Pretty sweet deal considering a new one starts at $799! :)

to owners of the vostro 1220:

    1. how heavy is the laptop with the 6 cell and without the LED screen? Dell site said "starting at 3.36lb".

    2. is the battery life "over 9 hrs" with the 6 cell as Dell claims?

    3. are there any problems installing and running windows 7?

Thanks in advance. i am really considering this laptop

The P8600 option is attractive for cooler operation (and I've had decent success undervolting the P8600 on my wife's Vostro 1720). Pretty nice package. Would be very attractive with the 35% coupon that I used to get my wife's Vostro! ;)

yea I just don't like how Dell is trying to give out false/misleading information to persuade customers. "starting weight" of 3.36 lb is with the 4 cell, the premium LED ($150 upgrade), solid state drive ($350 !!). how does that fit into the word "starting", seriously??

its common practice to state the lightest possible weight. at least they're not being silly like some device manufacturers that state the weight without battery!!!

i dont think the standard parts will increase the weight much. my M4400 is around 300g heavier than the "advertised weight" with the standard battery etc.

thats just the weight of 2 mobile phones. big deal.
