I didn't check no. I just assumed that 3DMark11 was enough to reduce both options to quivering piles of jelly.

I have since discovered that the integrated graphics do not support dx11 anyway so the benchmark is a bit redundant. I will check using HWMonitor though and see what I find. Thanks for the info.

Just chiming in on this thread.. I just received my new dell vostro 3550 (specs in sig) and I am impressed with it so far :D

My previous HP DV5Z failed 2 weeks ago (the processor burned out) and I decided to give dell a try.

My only issues so far are the speakers are a bit weak (in comparison to the dv5). Also does anyone know where I can download digitalpersona 5.02 from? I wiped the hard drive clean (recovery partition is gone) and reinstalled windows 7 but I didn't realize the digitalpersona software isn't available for download from the usual dell drivers and support page. Anyone have any ideas here?

Since I asked some questions a few weeks ago I want to report on my progress.

I just received my Vostro 3450 and the general performance is very good. I am able to use my external monitor at 1920x1200 just like expected. But this is most probably the most you can get out of the HDMI-plug if it only works in sinlge link mode (not sure about that since AMD seems to support dual link - but my screen won't go any higher so I cannot test that).
I didn't want to bother with optical drive modification and ordered my device with a blu-ray ROM drive - if I will ever be in need of blu ray burning I will fall back to my desktop pc.
But on the long run I will exchange the hdd with a sdd to raise performance and lower noise emission - I was guaranteed NOT to lose warranty on the device if I exchange drives myself.

While this all sound great I got two major noise issues which may become show stoppers for me.
    1. I used the laptop yesterday for just surfing and watching some youtube videos and the system fan was constantly running forwarding COOL air out of the chassis (my room is about 22°C)- so I gues fan-control needs to be adjusted.

    2. When I switch to battery mode I get annoying high pitched noises along with system activities (file operations, generated system load, keyboard strokes, touchpad interaction) - I already contacted support but they didn't find a solution yet.

Unfortunately Dell reps have no idea that the drive on this particular model is not accessible through the bottom cover, but requires taking apart half of the chassis (just like on the XPS 15). And their guarantees are meaningless...

I recently received my Vostro 3450 and really enjoy it alot. My specs are i5-2410, 4 GIGS (Upgrading to 8 soon!), 320GIG HDD 7200RPM, Intel HD3000, and backlit keyboard.

I want this laptop to last me a longtime, what would you all recommend are good laptop care-taking tips? Thanks!

EDIT: And if I wanted to match the RAM is it similar to this model here? SAMSUNG 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model MV-3T4G4/US

    Hey guys,

What kind of idle temperatures are you getting with these new vostro's? My 3550 sits between 50-55 degrees C which seems quite warm compared to my previous notebook.

Those are typical idle temperatures for Sandy Bridge CPUs. Under heavy load and with Turbo Boost they can heat up to 100 deg. C (maximum operating temperature). Matter of design, nothing to worry.

My dad just bought a 3750 base specs(i3, 2GB, 250GB, Intel HD 3000, etc). If he lets me touch it, I will run any requested software.

    Just let me know:)

My 3450's idle temp is between 48°c and 54°c. And I use a notebook riser (fanless)
