Dell has announced three upcoming Vostro models- two 14.0" (1014, 1088) and a 15.6" (1015). The only difference I can see between the 1014 and 1088 is the 1088's ATI HD 4330 dedicated graphics card. All three look very similar and have 16:9 aspect ratio displays (1366x768)....

I wonder if the 1320 and 1520 will continue alongside these new models?

The 1014 makes sense for a 14" and 1015 for a 15" (15.6" actually), but where the heck did they come up with 1088? The only difference between the 1014 and 1088 is that the 1088 has a 512mb ATI Radeon HD 4330 graphics card standard, while the 1014 (and 1015) have Intel integrated graphics.

There are rumors that a 10" Vostro notebook (with optical drive and high-res display) is in the works....it'll be interesting to see if there's a market for it! The Vostro 1220 (12.1") is the perfectly-sized ultraportable, in my opinion.

I had mentioned about these 3 models days ago...
I don't think the first batch will be customizable, as from what i see on the various sites, the hardwares seems to be fixed during the initial launch. Maybe one season later we may see some flexibility to change.

Almost forgot about the Vostro 10incher... although there's no news yet on the addition to the Vostro range, most likely i think will be based off the current Inspiron mini10v with N-series Atom processor. Note that the recent mini addition to Latitude range is maxed at N280. Having anything above that might end up the killing the Latitude mini.

They currently offer the Vostro A90 (which is based on the Mini 9), so a 10" off the 10 or 10v may be up next. But there are some rumors that a 10" notebook is in the works, most likely with a CULV processor. In my opinion, they should just offer the Latitude 2100 (netbook) with a 1366x768 display option and CULV processor and that would fill the niche (if it even exists) quite well!

Oh dear! 16:9 displays on what are meant to be business notebooks.

The time is approaching when I'll have to get a second E6400 to have as a spare.

When HP introduced the ProBook series with 16:9 displays, I knew it would lead to more! I wonder if the 16:10 Vostro models will continue along with these?

Hopefully, 16:9 displays won't make it to mid/upper-level business laptops for quite a while....I just don't see a 16:9 Latitude/Precision or ThinkPad!

What make's me laugh,is how manufacturer's keep putting "HD" in the marketing, like a loss of vertical workspace is some big upgrade.

768 pixel's high....let's go back to the 90's.....wonder what the next big thing will be,256 colour's?

Just looking at the picture's of the 1015,it's a hideously cheap and nasty looking thing anyway....dell seem's to be of the opinion lately, that a nice screen fit when closed is surplus to requirement even on the more expensive model's.
I mean look at this 1015,it look's like they've slapped a screen off a different model on to it.

Not to pour cold water to your hope... but what i see is that most likely the 16:10 screen will eventually be phased off as there might be more demand for such screens from major manufacturers. If you look at ACER's products, you will noticed that close to 60% of there range are 16:9. And new models of such size is rolling out almost every single month.

Right now we have yet to see Fujitsu, Panasonic and some others coming out with 16:10s yet... it's just a matter of time.

+1 QFT The physical size disadvantage of 16.9 is what upsets me the most, a 15 inch 16:9 laptop shouldn't be as bulky and wide as a 17 inch 16:10. That negates any portability advantage for the smaller screen size.

And yeah, when i graduate in the next two years (playing catch up FTL!) I might have to snag a E6400 as well-even if it's a scratch and dent out of the outlet. Anything to avoid 16:9 for a few more years.
