I'm looking at the Vostro 1720 and there is no option for a 64 bit verson of Windows 7 Home Premium. It comes with the 32 bit verson and I dont want to play $120 for the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Can I call and request a 64 bit upgrade to the Home Premium edition?

Vostro's are a business-line model, not home consumer model. You'll only be able to get the business and ultimate edition of Win 7 from the factory as far as I know. It is odd that you cannot get the 64-bit version of Win 7 Business though.

I don't see why that should be a problem. More importantly, it doesn't hurt to try.

They do have the Home premium 64 bit version on some of their refurbished laptops...maybe it wouldn't hurt to call in and ask I guess.

I believe that if you get the 32-bit version of an OS and want the 64-bit, you can call them and request the disk. After all, your license is for Windows 7 Home Premium, not for the particular version (32-bit or 64-bit).
