Does anyone know if Dell modifies the video card drivers that they post on the driver download website specifically for their machines? Or do they just download the latest drivers from the Nvidia webiste test on a particular machine for a little while and either pass or fail the driver for official use?

I suspect the latter, but I've always used nVidia's drivers, so it's hard for me to say. If you prefer to be on the cutting edge, use nVidia's offerings, but if you need guaranteed stability, opt for Dell's approved versions.

This may not help, but if I don't use the Intel Video Driver from Dell, and use the official Intel Driver, I lose brightness control.

Again, this may not apply to Nvidia machines, but it certainly seems to matter with Intel machines.
