    Hi.

I have a 2007 Dell Vostro 1500 bought 2nd hand three years ago still going strong (Only issue I had was with an over heating CPU so I stripped it down and reapplied some thermal paste).

The thing is I really don't need to update my laptop. For what I use it for its perfect. The only problem with the laptop is that the screen is not the best.

If anyone that bought a Dell Vostro from 2007 remembers that at the time there was a screen lottery going on with these Dell's. You could get one out of the following screens - either the AU Optronics, Samsung or the LG screen. LG being the best and the Auo being the worst. I got a Samsung panel, which is middle of the road i.e. ok but not the best.

Now I'm wondering do you think its worth trying to source a LG panel and replacing the screen or put the money towards a new laptop?

Also, my current resolution is 1280x 800. Is it possible to put a higher resolution screen in possibly a 1680 x 1050?

    Cheers.

Up to you, WUXGA panels are cheap, you should be able to substitute in a D830/D820 WUXGA panel, 1920x1200 or WSXGA+. Vostro 1500/Inspiron 1520 came with a WSXGA+ LG option, though it's $$$.
