This is kind of embarrassing :/

Well, I was on the phone with an outlet rep and we placed an order for a M6600 and I was not told what category the system was when I placed the order: Certified Refurbished, Outlet New, or Scratch & Dent.

My fault, yes cause I didn't ask, but can anyone tell via the order info what category this was? I tried to use the ARB system identifier to get more info, but since the system was ordered it no longer has any info.

Usually it would say it in the order list, but I don't see the terms refurbished, or any other info in the order details.

I would ask the rep that placed the order, but they are on vacation till the end of the week (getting the laptop sooner than that).

thats a very nice system. It doesnt tell you in the order detail. I myself thought it would too, but no in this case...

The best bet for you to is to call and ask. Give the information above right now, I dont think anyone can tell you which type.

Good luck and hopefully not scratch and dent..

Well, ironically enough I wanted to get complete care for this system too. However if its S&D already, I can't get that :(

I had a feeling this was too good for the price...

Well, I managed to get a hold of the original rep that helped me out, and she stated that the laptop was indeed refurbished in their system. However the box has a "Scratch & Dent" on it.

So I went to open the box and saw the laptop laying there, and the top covered looked ok (was facing up). So I took the laptop out of the holder and started to look at it.

    On the front:
*There is paint missing in the front left - looks like it was worn off somehow

    On the left side:
*Something took nice slash to the dvd slot and left a nice a nice indentation there
*Numerous little hair line scratches on the firewire/usb ports
*Paint is also coming off the same side (chipping, looks like due to to a flat head screw driver)

    On the Back:
*The hinges on the left and right side are dented some how (right on the edges)
*The LCD back cover is nicked in the few places in the back

On the right side (USB 3.0 area):
*Numerous nicks on the LCD cover and the edges of the laptop

    Bottom:
*Looks solid, but surface scratched quite a bit.

    Inside:
    *Screen looks pretty good
*Keyboard is shinny and worn. Mainly on the gaming keys - AWSD and the spacebar - looks like someone was a gamer :p

    Functionality:
*Prime95, Furmark, and the Dell Diag report no issues.
*Wireless seems to work well, screen is a nice treat from a 14in.

So I called Dell and asked how much it would be for those parts that are scratched.

    LCD back cover = $150.00
M6600 base = $250.00 (not even sure this is the right one)
Bottom cover = ? (could not find it)
    Display Bezel = $45.99
DVD = ? (forgot to ask)

Another interesting thing is none of the parts are in stock, so I dunno when I would get them even if I wanted them.

So my final conclusion in this mess... I dunno yet...lol

The laptop performs great, and yes it does have some issues cosmetically which may cause issues in meeting and etc. However on the flip side, it would get the job and other things I need it for done.

So I if want to get a cosmetically nice looking laptop with that config or so, I would look at least $3,920.00 (2960xm instead).

So finally tally if I were to keep it even though its a S&D:

New spare parts: $600+ (If I can get them)
Complete care: $450 (could not get it through outlet checkout)
Laptop itself: $1800 (used to have a coupon, now expired - but got it for that price)
    ------------------
    Approx $2850.00 or so

The fact of the matter was that I requested a refurbished model, not a S&D. Even the rep stated that she thought it was a Refurbished model.

When I called the rep and told her of the situation she was very understanding and provided me other similar laptops, but nothing like this one. She emailed me the quote and I told her I would think it over for a few. Sure enough, I took a nap watching TV and woke up too late and the rep left for the day :(

That's a shame. My S&D has only a few minor marks on it. This may be because it's the touchscreen model, I doubt many gamers (more prone to abuse) would opt for it.

    It is :(

I mean I really like the laptop, but as I said before - this is not what I ordered. I am speaking to Dell about my options, but I have a feeling it would be send it back and get another one.

Well...I was offered an exchange for the order and I took it since I have quite a bit of time left before my 21 days are over.

I have a feeling I will wait awhile since this isn't a simple configuration - but you never know.

Well, the order is in, however the rep told me that the video card has changed - from the ATI to the Nvidia 3000m.

Although I am very thankful for the upgrade and the exchange in general, I will miss the raw horsepower of the ATI card.

Too bad I can't just swap out the cards between the laptops :/

Anyone know a good place to buy the ATI card from?
