    Hi!
    I've recently bought my E6500. My configuration has no dial-up modem inside. (it's impossible to order custom config in my country).
    This thing is not very useful nowadays, but sometimes I need it to send faxes.

    My laptop has RJ11 phone line connector and corresponding 2-pin connector inside, so it should be possible to install Conexant D330 modem module, which is available cheap on eBay.

    But there is one problem: I also need the orange flat flex-cable with 10 pin connector. It's shown in the E6500 service manual modem page, item #3 on picture. Right above the WWAN card. (sorry i have too few post and can't add the link, you can find it in e6500 owners lounge thread)

    Can somebody remove back cover from your E6400 / E6500, and tell me the Dell part numbers of the flat cable and modem card?
    It should be something like "D P/N: 123456".

    Thanks!

    Your alternative, probably cheaper and easier, solution for occasional use is to get a USB modem. The internal modem was not an option when I bought my E6400 so I included Dell's USB modem in my order, but other USB modems should be fine. I have used my USB modem.

    Yes, but it's just interresting for me to make it internal and make use of RJ11 connector at the back side.

    I'm in the same boat. I couldn't order the modem as an option, but I've bought it after the fact via dell parts.

    Now I also need this elusive orange flex cable... my co-workers with the E6400 just simply dropped it in (although they were missing a screw, they took one from their keyboard).

    Please let me know if you figure out the P/N.

    I had a conversation with dell parts, and they gave me the following P/N's:
    W492C = Cable and M2 x 3-mm screw
    J004D = Just the cable

    ... Apparently they aren't in stock, nor could I get an ETA. Rats.

    Cable P/N seems to be 0W492C,
    the uniflex Part number is JAL20 LF-4044P

    Modem P/N is 0DN249

    EDIT: fairly sure they are both leading digit 0, but worth searching for leading letter O instead.

    So correct P/N of the cable must be W492C (without leading zero).
    Google finds it listed at Canadian Dell site as "Cable,Flexible,Internal,Modem,Maybach/Avia"
    Modem is DN249 or TH863.

    Thanks everybody for your help, but unfortunately our Dell authorized service refuses to sell any parts to end-users. So it's a problem for me to get it. Unless someone from US would order it and send to me :(

    Sorry to drag up an old thread but this is the best place for this information I believe. I too am adding the modem back to my M4400.

    I just got a quote from Dell for $6.99USD for the cable and screw (W492C), but the problem is that the shipping is $8.99USD. They are instock too.

    The modem itself it the same as ones used in older Dells, so you're best off checking around the store room or ebay.
