Some research has shown that others had the same issue with A06. One guy copied A07 to the root of his C: drive and it ran from there. Your mileage may vary. How much RAM is installed? Something quirky is going on. Also try disabling any anti-malware.

I've tried running from c: and disabling anti-malaware and antivirus but it is still not working.

Also I've tried running it in safe mode but it says that my AC adapter isn't plugged in when it is plugged in.

Anyone has some ideas how to resolve this?

If you can boot to DOS, you could try running the BIOS update from DOS per the BIOS download instructions.

Could try applying the A04 BIOS update... and/or the A05 BIOS update... and then the A07 BIOS update.

    Otherwise, talk to Dell.

    Thank you for your reply.

I am not able to boot to dos and I tried applying the a05 update and it doesn't work either.

I know there is a way to test your system hardware (ram, hdd, etc...) prior to windows boot. Do you know how to run this?

Also I am experiencing some freeze for like 30sec or so sometimes... the application stop responding and then comeback 30sec later. Could this be linked to my inability to run bios update? With what piece of hardware would that problem be linked to?

    Good for trying!

If you have the Dell Resouce CD, you can boot it and run Dell Diagnostics. There may also be BIOS-based diagnostics that you can access upon boot using a function key... not sure which.... try F10, F11, F12.

I suspect your hardware is fine. Hardware faults tend to be hard. But it is worth confirming. A successful diagnostics test helps demonstrate that your hardware can run well and is ok. Prepares you to take on a clean installation of the OS.

The application freeze is not easily deciphered... could be anything. But it is probably not hardware related since it recovers.

As a last resort (first resort for us doubters) you could re-image the system using the latest device drivers. That still may not allow the BIOS update if the problem is Dell's, but it would give you another opportunity to try and would yield a fresh system... a new lease on computing life.

See my E6410 re-image notes in my sig. You review your system devices (Device Manager) to know the principle devices in your system. You collect the required software... the OS DVD and device drivers. Dell.com support will offer the device drivers for download for your system. Then you install the OS and the device drivers in an order similar to what I list. The order is more critical near the beginning up through the networking drivers. Lots of installs and reboots to be sure each device is enabled and working. Then you tweak your system and install your applications. Notebooks are more tedious due to all of the proprietary and special integrated devices. Experience can help you to deal with strange issues that might arise... being careful to make wise choices when things don't go as expected. Sometimes it can be straight forward.

You typically begin by clearing the hard drive of partitions and reformating to be sure it is pristine. Of course, you must first backup your important user files/data to some secure location.

If you are unfamiliar with all of this, you might want to arrange some onsite help. But if you have nothing to lose and time to spare, you can just go for it... it helps to have another system on the Internet for getting support. Also, know that you can always start over to fix a mistep should you decide you are not satisfied with a certain outcome.

Again, I don't know that re-imaging your system will solve the BIOS update trouble. Booting DOS and trying the BIOS update would be similar to re-imaging the system and trying the update from a clean install of Windows.
