I bought an E6520 from the Dell outlet a couple of days ago. It does not have a Windows 7 certificate of authenticity with a license key. It did come with a reinstillation DVD which has a sticker on the back with a long alphanumeric character string that looks like it could be a license key but it is not labelled as such.

Do I have a legitimate copy of Windows? Will I be able to do a fresh reinstall if I decide to do so?

    TIA,

    Mike

Are you sure it's not underneath the battery? Alot of manufacturers are doing that now as the COA would get rubbed off being on the bottom chassis.

Also the recovery media shipped will pre-activate Windows.

I would also create factory recovery discs before you do anything like a fresh install just in case.

Boy do I feel like an idiot! Rightfully so I guess.

Yes, its beneath the battery. It was on the bottom of the case of my last lappy (and indeed did become unreadable over time).

    Thanks!

Nah don't take it that way. The first few laptops I saw like that, I was shocked. Smart move actually.
