This is the first time after 2 years that I need to reinstall XP on my Dell Vostro 1700... :D

I formatted and reinstalled then put in the cd with the drivers and clicked install on all the recomended ones ... than rebooted :( ... my mistake because I wanted to loose less time ... after the reboot it all crashed, it didn't see the usb port, so no mouse, and gave some funny errors...
so I formated again and reinstalled...

Now how should I deal with the drivers? Search them one buy one from the device manager on the Internet?

I really don't want to reinstall again and I need my laptop back working...
    Thanks...

I always install my drivers for the Vostro 1500 and 1700 in this order and reboot after each driver install:

    1) Intel Chipset
    2) Ricoh Chipset
    3) Nvidia Video
    4) Sigmatel Audio
    5) Modem
    6) Broadcom LAN
    7) Dell Wireless

    * Get the latest drivers from the Dell Website by entering your Service Tag *

p.s. there's bug with Windows XP where after the Intel Chipset install you might lose all your USB ports. If you look in Device Mgr just uninstall each USB port with the Exclamation Mark, then reboot. Upon rebooting your laptop will reinstall all your USB drivers/ports and you are back in business ! :)

thanks, will try tonight after work...

my mistake I haven't rebooted after each one... I just wanted to finish sooner... :( I'll do it right this time.
Can I search for the latest drivers on dell's website and put them on a memory stick? I used the original CD ... but I gues is quite old (about 2 years at least)
