Replacing Vostro 1400 Motherboard

Hi folks,

Unfortunately after about 2 yrs and 11months of using my Vostro 1400, its nvidia gpu finally started to fail and I can't even see the startup screen anymore. Since I am well out of the original and the 1yr extended warranty dell offered, Dell probably won't fix it for free. So, I am planning to either buy a new motherboard w/ intel graphics and replace it, but I need some help.

Since I am quite a "noob" in replacing motherboards or computers in general, can someone please tell me where I can buy a new motherboard and how to correctly replace it.
Also, does anyone recommend calling Dell first to see if they will fix it for free, without forcing me to buy a new warranty for like 300bucks??

I would just recommend getting a new laptop, you should be able to find a nice refurbished Vostro or Latitude from the Dell Outlet for around $600 or so. You could also be able to sell the Vostro 1400 for parts on Ebay to help offset the costs of a new laptop.

 

Thanks for the reply Robin24k. Yeah, I actually changed my mind. I'll just buy a new laptop. By the way, which parts of the notebook do you recommend me to sell online? Rough estimate of how much I should sell each part would also be very helpful! Thanks
