Wait a second, did you say Vostro 1230? What is that? There is a newer model out already?

I have to say that I love my Vostro 1220, it is so portable, yet so fast and powerful, with an excellent battery life. did I mention that it looks great sitting on my desk too? :)

Even after I connected a pair high end external speakers to the laptop, the sound quality still feels inferior to that of my Asus netbook! What is going on? They both feature "Conexant high definition audio", but the sound on the dell V1220 feels coarse and dull, and lacks clarity. How is audio quality on other Vostro laptops such as the 1320? I wonder. Please share your comments!

    idiscuss,

Can you take a pic with the 6 cell battery and post it? I want to see if the battery add to the dimensions of hte laptop or is it blended in.

    thanks

I was considering the Vostro 1320 because of the ability to get the NVIDIA 256 mb video card. I don't intend to do any gaming, but will be downloading/watching some HD movies. Is the video card necessary? Aanyone with any experience - if it's not necessary, I'd rather get the smaller vostro 1220 w/o the card. Thoughts from owners??

Not necessary at all! In fact, I would strongly suggest you to stay away from the Nvidia chip, having been burned myself.

The Vostro 1220 with Intel 4500HD handles 1080P HD movies with ease. The load on CPU is around 20% during playing.

Having the Nvidia will only add to heat and power consumption.

It is blended in. It doesn't stick out at the back of the laptop, but it raise the back very slightly, making typing on the keyboard even more pleasant. I think it also helps with ventilation, the machine never gets hot.

Dell.com says the 1220 weighs ~3.36 lbs but that is with a 4-cell, no CD/DVD drive, and a SSD drive. What does it weigh with a 6-cell, CD/DVD drive, and a actual hard drive?

Also, is this machine as portable as a netbook?

Where does this info comes from? It doesn't say so on Dell site?

Thanks. How many hours of battery life are you getting with the six cell?
