Hi there. This is my first post here.

I'm considering buying a Latitude... either E5520 or E6520. I heard somewhere that the palm rests on the 6520 are rubberized. Can anyone confirm this? And does the E5520 have them too?

I ask because I generally don't like rubberized products--they're great when they're new, but they tend to get dirty fast and are difficult to clean (although if anyone has any cleaning tips, I'm all ears).

    Thanks!

I don't know about the E5520 but the E5420 does not have any rubberized surfaces. The palmrest is "Soft-Touch" matt plastic. Very subtle and nice.

I have a e5520, I think the palm rest is magnesium with matte paint. Not rubberized, and it's only catch oily hand, not dust.

Thanks for the info. It seems like most people have been buying the e6420 & e6520, but based on this (and other reasons), I think I'd prefer the 5520.

I remember now that it was on Dell's customer review pages that I saw people complaining about the e6*20's rubberized palm rests:

Dell.com - Latitude E6420 customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

Dell.com - Latitude E6520 customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

Everyone with a e6420 seems to hate the rubber (as I probably would, too) though only a couple people complained about it on the e6520. I wonder why.

Maybe they think it's plastic and they hate cheap plastic. Well, if you don't mind the build construction of e5520 (the bottom case assembly is plastic, upper part of bottom case is magnesium alloy), then it's good to go. Most internal parts is similar though. And I sometimes think 5x20 series look cooler than 6x20 series, but that's just me.

Yeah, I'm not sure which one I think looks cooler 'cause it's hard to tell just from photos. But I loathe the orange stripe around the keyboard on the 6*20 series. I'm not afraid of color, but it seems totally arbitrary.

Still trying to decide between the 5520, or stepping down to the XPS (cheaper, lower build quality, but higher specs) or way up to the Precision m4600 (better all around, but $$$).
