I was so scared by other threads about dell being terrible and none that said anything positive.

I ordered my machine just before Christmas with an estimated delivery date of 22/01/2010

    It arrived the 12/01/2010

    Excellent...

I've had two very different experiences with Dell recently.
The first order for an XPS 16 was placed Oct. 11 and arrived Dec. 12
The second order for a Vostro V13 was placed last Monday (Jan. 4) and, according to Purolator, is scheduled to arrive tomorrow...

Dell seem to have learnt to not be optimistic about delivery dates. The launch of the M1330 was a disaster (there's a long thread about that). As reported in my E6400 review, my E6400 was delivered a couple of weeks ahead of the forecast date.

It's highly dependent on the model and the configuration you choose.
Recently I order two Optiplex 960 towers that took 6 weeks to get here.
While I ordered 2 new Optiplex 380s and it took a week.

It's about a month on average to get anything for me though. If it comes in sooner I am happy.

its been over a wide range of products from a dell axim pda to a optiplex desktop. i think it might be because im fairly near the dell factory in malaysia and the dell rep always promises to expedite my order since i travel quite a bit?

All my Dell units have shown up on time or before the estimated date. Can't complain there. But I have never ordered during a holiday period.

As others have said, I think it depends a lot on your location and the machine spec. I ordered my M4400 on a Thursday, paid on the Friday, and it was delivered the following Wednesday, so it doesn't get much faster than that :)

P.S. The above wasn't a holiday order. I did once order an Inspiron in November, and it barely arrived in time for Christmas, so I can attest to Dell's ability to mess things up around the holidays :)

I ordered a Vostro V13 on the 4th of January as well and it still says "order received" - and they have charged my credit card. I have emailed Dell twice and they havent replied, and called once and was put on hold for so long i had to hang up eventually. Starting to get annoyed with it all.....

Dell put a charge on the card immediately in order to check there are sufficient funds, but they don't take the money until the computer is shipped.
