    Hi

I have a lattitude e6400 and when it boots up the screen flickers for about 8 to 10 minutes then stops. I have replaced the inverter but still flickers - i do know that the hard drive has a problem as it will not do a full format and stops at 90 % - but will do a fast format - could this be why the screen flickers - also if i remove the graphic driver it flickers less - any help would be great

    Regards

Could the problem reflect the electronics warming up?

Does it affect an external display?

    Got a spare HDD?

Have you run the Dell Diagnostics?

How old is the BIOS version?

There are diagnostics built into the BIOS. Press F12 on initial boot.

There is also a bigger set of diagnostics under the E6400 downloads. Enter your service tag into the Dell support site and it should be on the list.

    That's very unlikely.

You say that you have already replaced the inverter (which is one of the most common sources of backlight problems) in which case I wonder if the problem lies with the lamp. Once it has warmed up it seems to work OK.

Remove the hard drive and boot the OS DVD... does it flicker?
